In 1916 the first Avery branch was opened in Wellington by the Australasian Scale Company
Limited. Six years later a further branch was opened in Auckland and with the advent
of Avery Visible Weighers, agencies were opened in Christchurch, Dunedin, Nelson, Frankton
Junction and New Plymouth.
IN 1929 the Avery organisation in New Zealand became an independent member of the Avery
family with the registration of W&T Avery (NZ) Limited. The Head Office was in
Wellington, with branches in Auckland and Christchurch and agents or representatives in
Dunedin, Nelson, Frankton Junction, New Plymouth, Napier and Palmerston North.
Over the years business prospered and new branches continued to open around the
country. In 1975 the company set up its own metrology and calibration laboratory and
services offered through to the current period include the testing of masses, precision
laboratory balances, industrial balances, industrial weighing appliances, force measuring
devices and testing machines. The fully accredited laboratory provides testing
facilities in Auckland, Hastings and Christchurch.
The past two decades have witnessed massive, unsurpassed and positive technological
change for all New Zealanders. For Gilbarco, one of the many positive aspects of
this has been the consolidation of local service branches into larger and more strategically
located service centres.
The acquisition of the Service Division of Advantage Data Systems Limited in 1998,
gave the company new skills in the installation and servicing of EFTPoS, PoS and wrapping
machines.
The servicing of mechanical steelyards, platforms, visible weighers and weighbridges
has largely given way to the servicing of electronic retail and industrial weighing
instruments. EFTPoS, PoS, computers/systems and ATMs. What remains unchanged is the
dedication of Gilbarco's staff to the very best standards of service.
